Bio
RJ Savoie (b. 1976, Vancouver, Canada) is a Vancouver-based artist working in photography and digital media. He is best known for his unconventional use of cameras, employing long exposure and light suppression techniques to capture the motion of multiple moments suspended in time. Through these methods, Savoie creates imagery that challenges traditional photographic perception and expands the boundaries of temporal representation.
Savoie’s work centers on the manipulation of time and light, using the camera as a form of “time travel” to reveal visuals the human eye cannot naturally perceive. His practice spans natural landscapes and urban environments, seeking both the beauty of nature and the intensity of the metropolis. Significant projects include “Hydrasky” (2023–2025) captures the shifting moods and movements of global bodies of water, evoking both their power and serenity. His series “Motional” (2024–2025), created while shooting from a moving car through Mexico City, documenting its bustling life and uncovering hidden architectural forms that resemble fantastical creatures through the random interplay of light and motion.
RJ Savoie has presented his work in exhibitions such as Victorian Birth at The Portal Studio, Bowen Island, Canada; The Winter in Apodaca, Sailish Sea, Canada; and Dronus at The Raven Studio, Bowen Island, Canada. His work is held in private collections in many locations around the world, including the Back Alley Sally Collection, currently available for acquisition.
